AAR: TacCon 2024 Part 7: Chaotic Pistol with David Cagle & Darryl Bolke of Hardwired Tactical Shooting

As you already know, DGU's are seldom cut-and-dry. Safety Rules 2 & 4 can be a real problem in crowded environments, and this is a skill that must be trained and exercised if we expect our students & clients to prevail.

Enter Chaotic Pistol.

Together, David Cagle & Darryl Bolke answer the need for this training, while using normal range equipment and targets. Together they laid out the ground rules for the range exercises and the reasons why this training needs to spread within the community. The goal of the exercises were to deliver the correct number of shots to the correct target zones, without muzzling or shooting the incorrect targets.

We were split into teams. One shooter would stand uprange, facing away from the targets. His team members will then arrange the targets in a way to present a cognitive challenge. At the start signal, the shooter would then turn and address the environment accordingly. Some problems will not require the gun to leave the holster. The complexity of the situation is left up to the teammates that arranged the scenario.

I think this idea is ingenious!

We all had a ton of fun!!

David & Darryl very clearly discussed the rationale behind the outcomes they expected, without belittling the attendees (which I think is super important to keeping their minds open to further learning). They analyzed the actions, without judging the participants.

It was also really cool to finally see David Cagle stepping into his own with this class. This was NOT Darryl's class, for David had owned it. Without having to overtly state it, he made it known simply with his command presence. We all knew who was in charge. I had heard about David's leadership often, but it was a real treat for me to witness it for myself.
